SHPE Rensselaer Mission Statement

The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute student chapter, is an organization dedicated to the personal, academic, and professional growth of the Rensselaer minority students pursuing careers in engineering, science, and other technical fields. We suggest, plan, coordinate, and participate in activities which provide means and resources to make Rensselaer a successful growing experience.

Goals and Objectives

  • Encourage advancement of Hispanic engineers and scientists in education and engineering.
  • Hold meetings where the concerns of Hispanics students will be heard.
  • Establish a forum for exchange of technical information.
  • Serve as a satellite for the National Society of Hispanic Engineers and support its cause.
  • Increase the number of Hispanics entering the engineering and science fields.
  • Promote career awareness, self-esteem, and pride within the community.
  • Provide Hispanic students with information on scholarship and other forms of financial assistance.
  • Develop an effective outreach program to advise and encourage Hispanic students to pursue
    higher education in the engineering and science fields.
  • Participate in programs with industry and educational institutions in order to benefit students
    seeking technical careers.
  • Encourage and support the establishment of student chapters.
  • Increase involvement with other campus groups to build coalitions in order to tackle other
    areas of interest.
